If you sometimes forget to measure your temperature, it will not affect Natural Cycles’ effectiveness as birth control. That said, fewer temperature data points will make it harder for the algorithm to identify your fertile window.

The rhythm method is a type of calendar method, fertility awareness-based methods that have been around for a long time. Natural Cycles is a regulated medical device, the first FDA-cleared birth control app. It gives daily fertility statuses in the form of Red (fertile) Days and Green (non-fertile) days so you know where you are in your cycle and whether there’s a risk of pregnancy that day.

Unlike Natural Cycles, the rhythm method isn’t tailored to you. It’s based on counting cycle days and isn’t recommended for use by those with irregular cycles. It also doesn’t take into account the fact that your ovulation day can shift from cycle to cycle.
