Common questions

Natural Cycles is the company behind the first and only FDA-cleared and CE-marked digital birth control, in the form of an app. Our mission has always been to empower women and people with female reproductive hormones to take control of their reproductive health, and we are constantly working to expand our offering. The app can be used to prevent pregnancy, plan pregnancy, monitor a pregnancy, recover after birth, and now it can also be used to decode and navigate the menopausal shift with science.

NC° Perimenopause is for anyone experiencing perimenopause — from the first hormone-related changes to your cycle or symptoms, right through to menopause, when your periods stop. You can also use it if you’re experiencing symptoms in postmenopause or in induced menopause (when menopause is brought on by medical interventions such as surgery or medication). NC° Perimenopause is here for all of it.

The changes you notice in perimenopause can affect your cycle or period, or include other things like pain and symptoms that may be physical or cognitive. Some people experience dramatic changes, while others start to notice subtle shifts that only make sense when they look back later. The process can last a few months or more than ten years.

Everyone’s experience is different, and it can be hard to know where you are on this journey, whether it’s smooth sailing or bumpy and confusing. You can use NC° Perimenopause to track symptoms and lifestyle factors, find patterns that help you make more informed decisions, draw on analysis and insights powered by our first-of-its-kind NC° Menopause Algorithm, and save data that can help you and your doctor create a more personalised treatment plan.

There are lots of new trackers specific to perimenopause that can help you track symptoms, find correlations with lifestyle factors, and visualise progress as you manage your experience. The new trackers include common symptoms like brain fog, fatigue, vaginal dryness, joint pain, heart palpitations, hot flushes, and more. We’ve also added lifestyle trackers that might trigger or relieve symptoms, and even external factors, like the weather — because we know that some things are out of your control.

With NC° Perimenopause, you can also track temperatures to better understand your fertile days and cycle. But you will only receive a daily fertility status if you are not currently using hormone therapy or hormonal birth control.

Yes! We understand that menopausal hormone therapy (MHT), also known as hormone replacement therapy (HRT), can be an important part of managing the symptoms of perimenopause. That’s why we created NC° Perimenopause to work alongside hormone therapy where appropriate — it can even be a useful tool to assess how effective your hormone therapy is and to record data that can help you and your doctor make more informed decisions about your overall treatment plan. You can read more about hormone therapy in perimenopause in this article.

Some of the most difficult parts of perimenopause are the unknowns: Why do I feel this way? How long will this go on for? What can I expect to happen to my body and mind? What do the changes mean? How can I manage symptoms in my daily life, and when should I talk to my doctor?

NC° Perimenopause helps you decode the menopausal shift by bringing clarity to symptoms and cycle changes, identifying correlations with lifestyle factors, and assessing your perimenopause stage with our first-of-its-kind NC° Menopause Algorithm. It provides daily insights, helps you make informed decisions, and gives you a record of your data that can help you and your doctor make the best treatment plan for you. You’ll also find deep dives of reliable information about the symptoms, cycle changes, and lifestyle factors that are relevant to perimenopause.

Yes! NC° Perimenopause will be accessible to everyone regardless of their birth control needs. This is the first time that the Natural Cycles app, known for being the first and only FDA-cleared and CE-marked digital birth control, is available to users who are using hormonal birth control. This mode is also available to those using different forms of non-hormonal birth control. We designed NC° Perimenopause to be inclusive because we know that perimenopause can affect you regardless of your choice of birth control.

Note that while it’s possible to switch to other modes in the app, users on hormonal birth control will not be able to use NC° Birth Control mode.

A wearable isn’t required, but it can offer a convenient and seamless way to track your temperature. Natural Cycles integrates with compatible wearable technology to easily sync temperature data with the NC° app.

If you’re not using hormone therapy or hormonal birth control, your temperature data will power our algorithm, helping you better understand your fertile days and cycle patterns, and spot irregularities that may occur during perimenopause.

In perimenopause, it’s normal for your periods to get shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, closer together, or farther apart — or all of the above! The Natural Cycles algorithms are designed to handle the expected unpredictability of changing cycles during this shift, including detecting changes to ovulation trends and more frequent anovulation (cycles with no ovulation), so the app works with both regular and irregular cycles.

The app features a Cycle Insights tool that helps you better understand your menstrual cycle and get recommendations based on your unique cycle. This information can support conversations with your healthcare team, empowering you to make informed decisions about your health. For more information, read this article: Why was my cycle flagged as atypical or irregular?

Please note that users on hormonal birth control will not be able to use Natural Cycles as birth control.

Natural Cycles is designed to comply with GDPR and other third-party standards. We regularly audit our systems and follow strict cybersecurity protocols to maintain a state-of-the-art level of security and encryption.
