The top 10 NC° Trackers of 2023
1. Period days logged: 20 million
That’s a lot of bleeding! With more than 20 million period days logged, we estimate that’s about 100 million tampons used collectively this year!
How you feel about your period arriving can vary depending on your fertility goals, your medical history, and what’s happening in your life right now. All that considered, we think it’s important to recognize that menstruation is an integral part of the menstrual cycle, and logging your period in the Natural Cycles app helps the algorithm learn more about your unique cycle.
2. Over 100 million temperatures taken
Is it me, or is it getting hot in here? This year, we took our temperatures together over a whopping 100 million times! That’s a lot of temp-tracking...
Whether you’re measuring with an NC° Thermometer, Oura Ring, or Apple Watch, all those measurements add up and can lead to more Green Days, or if you’re planning pregnancy, it can help you narrow down your ovulation day.
3. Getting down to it
after the number of temperatures taken and menstruation days tracked, the most logged tracker was *drum roll, please* Sex! Maybe that’s not so surprising for the world’s first birth control app. What might catch you off guard is not how much we did the deed, but WHEN. In fact, the sexiest month of the year was January, with most Cyclers logging sex in the app at the very start of the year on January 1st, 2023.
4. We tracked: Tired
If you catch yourself yawning while reading this, we won’t take offense. The most logged emotional tracker in the NC° app was Tired. From work, to family life, and other responsibilities, it’s not surprising you may have felt the need for a little downtime. We hope the holidays will bring you plenty of opportunities to rest up and recuperate for the coming year.
5. But we also found stillness
On a more peaceful note, we noticed an uptick in positive emotions logged around ovulation, with Calm taking the top spot at this time. The surge in the hormone estrogen is often given credit for positive symptoms around ovulation. Did you notice any other signs of ovulation, such as clearer skin or ovulation pain?
6. Feeling irritable?
It’s important to recognize all emotional changes, whether positive or negative, and those of you logging trackers in the app did exactly that! Many of us felt a little cranky this year, whether that was linked to hormonal changes or perhaps another side effect from feeling tired, what matters is that you took a moment to acknowledge how you felt. Feeling irritable was another popular emotion tracked.
7. Cramps = a pain in the uterus
Periods are more than just about bleeding, as anyone with painful cramps can testify. On top of the number of period days logged, lots of you took the time to log Cramps during your time of the month.
Whether you take medication, opt for a natural remedy, or choose just to rest, there’s no right or wrong way to manage period pain.
8. Bloating took a top spot
The ability to track bowel movements was one of our most requested features in 2023, and after launching this in the middle of the year — we saw a spike in Cyclers tracking their tummy troubles with the Bloating taking the spot as the most popular type of this tracker.
It might not be glamorous or sexy, but our hormonal changes can also have an effect on our bowels! From constipation to period poop, we’re here to help you better understand what’s going on in your body.
9. Headaches happen
Another frequently logged cycle symptom were Headaches. These are commonly associated both with PMS and menstruation, but there are many external circumstances that can cause headaches, too, such as stress, or not drinking enough water.
The NC° app is always here to help you keep track of how you’re feeling, but remember to talk to your doctor if you experience any unexplained or persistent symptoms.
10. Moments of happiness
We’re happy when you’re happy! This positive emotion was most frequently logged around ovulation, alongside feeling calm. We hope that in 2024, you experience just as many, if not more, happy days throughout your cycle.
Whether you feel a little lighter or a surge of euphoria, you can also log the strength of the emotions and physical changes you feel. On the Add Data page, simply hold down the tracker button to open the severity bar.
